This post was inspired by my friend Hania, mom of beautiful twin boys. These are the recipes that helped me through the billion bland baby food recipes of mushy peas and steamed potatoes, but there’s one book in particular that really changed my life in terms of baby feeding; or avoiding the need to baby feed. I highly recommend it for new moms who are about to step into the transition to solids:
When I started nursing Mia, my first baby, I was told: “A new mom never gets to eat her meals warm”. I refused to accept that; feeding all 3 of my constantly thirsty kids through their first year and half meant that I would have to eat all my meals, and I deserved to eat with everyone else. This book is all about that, it’s fair to both you and your baby, where you can enjoy your meals together and they can learn to feed themselves, learn about textures, tastes, shapes and mostly, gravity; so invest in the thickest plastic mat to go under your baby’s high chair!
My first go-to breakfast recipe is my Homemade Muesli with Fruit Compote, which I previously posted: https://cookease.blog/2015/06/24/homemade-muesli-fruit-compote/
My second favorite, is a savory dinner recipe which I found in The Toddler Cafe cookbook. Lily Pad Pancakes are easy to make in your baby steamer/blender. I serve these with local labaneh or yogurt. A slight variation in the ingredient list:
1 1/2 cups organic frozen peas, thawed
2 tablespoons water
1 free range egg
3 tablespoons organic Unbleached all-purpose flour
1/8 teaspoon baking powder
Vegetable oil, as needed
Labaneh or yogurt for serving
